Document Summary
Urinary system major excretory system of body. Eliminate toxins (taken into body or produced by body) Regulates blood volume maintains cardiovascular f(x) and blood pressure. Involved in homeostatic regulation: na, k, h, ph, fluid [ ] Glomerulus filters entire blood volume 35x a day. Diff regions of kidney contribute do diff f(x) Structure of kidney (fig 18. 4-18. 6: bean-shaped, fist size, renal capsule layer of, ct that surround each kidney, hilum where vessels enter and exit. Renal corpuscle contains bowman capsule and glomerulus. Bowman capsule consists of enlarged end of nephron that has an indent to form a double-walled chamber which opens into the pct that carries the fluid away. Glomerulus tuft of capillaries (like a ball of yarn) that rests in the bowman capsule. Collecting duct: juxtamedullary vs. cortical nephrons. Juxtamedullary next to medulla" have loops that extend deep into the medulla. Cortical loops of henle do not extend deep into medulla.
