BPK 306 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Mechanoreceptor, Motor Planning, Supplementary Motor Area
Document Summary
Lateral tracts are used for walking, reaching, etc. Lateral corticospinal tract (red: originates in the motor cortex, descends through the midbrain and crosses at the medullary pyramid, controls distal musculature, dexterity, fine motor control, end mostly on alpha motor neurons. 2: *cerebellum -> functions for fine tuning of motor commands, visual- motor integration, does not initiate movement, just corrects it and makes movements smooth. If damaged -> will appear drunk (lack of coordination: name two major medial descending pathways, state where they originate, where they decussate, on which neurons they end, and which muscles these innervate. Medial tracts regulate the movement of axial (ex. Abdominal, for balance and posture) and proximal limb muscles. Would not be able to keep balance on bus during sharp stops. Medullary reticulospinal tract (blue: originates in the medulla, ends on interneurons of medial motor neurons, mainly inhibitory.
