Each person has a diferent pathway depending on circumstances. Developmental pathway: characteristics of which often can be identiied at a very early age. Life course of humans follow a pathway that is littered with risk factors: school failure, abuse of alcohol, childhood victimization. Higher the exposure of risks, the greater the probability that person will participate in antisocial behavior. Children are also exposed to: risk factors. Head towards a life of crime: protective factors. We want to intervene on negative pathways. Understanding pathways allow us to intervene in pathways: steer towards positive/protective factors. Social risk factors: poverty and impoverished resources, antisocial peers, peer rejection, and school experiences. Parental and family risk factors: faulty or inadequate parenting, sibling inluences, and child maltreatment or abuse. Psychological risk factors: cognitive and language ability, temperament, self regulation skills and poor interpersonal and social skills.
