Document Summary
After the war, the world saw the positions among the allies began to shift. Victory for britain had cost the country greatly; it emerged from the war with a demoted standing among the allies and a struggling domestic economy. Soviet union suffered a catastrophic loss of life and a large amount of damage, but had more prospects for recovery than britain due to their natural resources and inherent expansionist policies. The united states emerged the most powerful of the three, with no physical destruction done to the country and a vastly accelerated and expanded economy. However, the ideological conflicts between the two were deep and unprecedented. Their already mutually suspicious relationship began to devolve even further after the war, and their differences became increasingly polarized, as the united states became a champion of liberal democracy and capitalism, the ussr of totalitarianism and communism.
