Thinking: formaion of a new material rep through the transformaion of info by complex interacion o the mental atributes of judging, abstracing, reasoning, imagining and problem solving. Problem solving: thinking directed toward the handling of a paricular situaion involving both the formaion of responses and the selecion among possible responses. Part of a problem: try to move from current state to goal state via the available operators while observing any constraints. Can be solved ( not always skillfully) by use of instrucin for the task and general problem. Finding a parking spot: knowledge rich problem. Requires speciic knowledge or skill to solve the problem calculus: well deined. A problem having a clear cut soluion solved by algorithm. A problem usually having muliple possible soluions cannot be solved by an algorithm. Herb simon: trained in poliical science; also worked in economics and (mainly) psychology, studied protocols of subjects talking during problem solving, won nobel prize in economics , started cog revoluion.
