138 views1 pages

Document Summary

In a switch, by default all the ports belong to the same lan and the same broadcast domain. In layer 2, the entities are called vlans. Going from one vlan to another it is called intervlan communication. There are two ways to create vlan, one is static vlan and one is dynamic vlan. Static vlans: we have a switch with ports, by default all the 12 ports belong to the same. Vlan, by default we call the vlan vlan1. We can create a vlan and assign ports towards that vlan, those are called static vlans. Depending on where you are and which switch port you connect to it belongs to a different vlan. In a vlan policy server, we assign vlan ids and mac addresses to the vlans. Ports are dynamicall assigned to vlans depending on mac address that gets connected there are access ports and trunk ports.
