Document Summary

Metabolism is also influenced by total energy intake. Cho used for energy; excess stored as fat. Cho used for energy limited glycogen stores metabolic adjustments. More aerobic metabolism = more oxygen consumption = more co2 produced. Steady state go on indefinitely using aerobic. Maximum rate at which the heart, lungs and muscles can effectively take in and use oxy- gen as part of metabolic processes during exercise. Measured in litres of oxygen consumed per minute or litres of oxygen per minute per kilogram of body weight. Calculated by measuring the exchange of gas entering and leaving the lungs, the amount of oxygen going in to the body minus the amount coming out. Test begins at light intensity exercise and gets slightly harder each minute until max exer- tion is reached. Used to determine aerobic fitness, lactic threshold (where more anaerobic energy release begins to accelerate) and is an indicator of an athlete"s endurance potential.
