We use social cues to conform and fit in with other groups allowing us to evolve and get further in life. 3 types: mimicking we mimic other peoples postures and match our behaviours and facial expressions to conform. Thinking of an action will make it more likely. Suggestions make us think that we should be doing them and make it more likely that we do these actions subconsciously. We mimic those that we expect to get along with or think we would get along with. If we want someone to like us we are more likely to imitate their actions, and if we are being mimicked then we are more likely to behave in prosocial ways: information social influence unfamiliar setting. Social norms: expected standards of conduct which influence behaviour: normative social influence: conforming out of fear of criticism or being different than the group.
