Document Summary

He was an outrageous artists and aristocrat, figuring very prominently in the circle of the restoration court. At points, he was a favourite of charles ii, but sometimes was an enemy of him. He took advantage of court life, living quite fully. He died at 33 of syphillis, and almost drank himself to death. He didn"t publish most of it, because it was often controversial, and because he was an aristocrat. He did have multiple affairs, but still loved his wife. Right before he death, he had a deathbed repentance. He had all of his papers burned by his mother upon his request, and had a moment when he realized he had been living in sin and found god. Satyr is from greek mythology, is a half man, half goat or animal. It was often associated with nature, but also with man"s baser instincts; sex, intoxication, etc.
