There was also an involvement in getting involved with those parts of the world that were decolonizing. It was an attempt to have relations with the us, but also expand communism. A standstill in communism was unacceptable, and it required expansion and development. To just standstill would have disturbing effects in the su. There had to be new relations with existing communist countries. The countries of eastern europe could no longer be run by stalin"s methods, as the su wasn"t. 1956 was the year of watershed in international relations, with the soviets and the west. In the west, there was a massive boost of decolonization by the suez crisis, with britain and france no longer able to assert themselves over their colonies.
