There were many types of socialisms in russia. They were influenced by the political and social conditions in russia. The intelligentsia were a special group of people who emerged in russia at the end of the 18th century, disinfected nobles, really shaped it. They were well read, from an elite background, and were committed deeply to political and social change. They were committed to helping the mass of people who were serfs, and they were very culturally different from most of the russian population. Socialism really emerged in russia in the 1860"s after the emancipation act. The serfs and intelligentsia were disappointed in it. N. g chernyshevsky (1828-1889) was big in spreading totalitarian socialism, he believed in science. Done was written one year after the emancipation act. It was a novel that was flat characterization, but politically it was very significant.
