HIST 4070 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Hazing, Canda, Ibm Officevision
Document Summary
Lecture as given by e. lisa panayotidis and paul stortz from the university of calgary. Investigating the agency of students and faculty to create a space and consciousness, and how such constructions have not only changed, but how they were realized. One can highlight the university and its place for students within it. There is a historic ideal of students in university and who and what they should be. Students were seen as the future of the community especially in religion, clergy, law, etc. They were also seen as moral exemplars for the community. The idea of learning was about the pursuit of knowledge. Literacy was also seen as coinciding with knowledge. They were learning to be members of society who were literate and who could interpret the world through passages of the bible. Because they were literate, they could interpret the bible for the community. Professors, scholars, and teachers were debating physical and metaphysical knowledge.
