NEUR 3610 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Antonio Damasio, Premotor Cortex, Frontal Lobe
Document Summary
Alerting system, orienting system, and one other thing. 3 types: engage/disengage: posterior parietal, what: temporal (agnosias, executive: frontal lobe (new theory of consciousness relates to ventral frontal cortex). Connectivity map: 2 systems that you have 2 distinct executive systems which are controlling attention. Change blindness: miss large changes in our visual world from one view to the next (experimenters behind the counter). Inattention blindness (includes change blindness): people don"t see the gorilla when asked to focus on the white shirts playing ball. Attentional blink: present a screen and half a second later show you something else, you will report not seeing the first thing. Neglect: prisms to direct gaze into the impaired field. People who show neglect with prisms on them now don"t show neglect. And those in the control group will show neglect once the prisms are removed (forced neglect). Video of activating premotor cortex of vegetative state and be able to answer yes or no.
