Document Summary

These terms are used to describe test data (sometimes used incorrectly) Accurate is a high degree of agreement b/w test result and the true value of characteristic being measured. Accuracy is the degree of agreement b/w the average of many test results and the true value of the characteristic being measured. Sensitivity (precision of equipment) is the lowest level which an instrument will measure. Or the number of signi cant digits to which a value can be reliably measured by an instrument. Mistake (determinate errors) e. g. human error- incorrect operation of the test equipment. Bias - an action that will deliberately skew results e. g. cutting specimens in a band across one section of the fabric. Variations among measurements that are not attributed to mistakes or biases. Error will always be present in test results repeat determinations will never agree exactly, regardless of how careful you are. Neat and e ective presentation is essential if date are to be useful.
