NURS 116 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Pleural Effusion, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Otitis Media
Document Summary
Immunologic defence against tissue injury, infection or allergy. Caused by accumulation of immune cells and substances around the injury or infection. Neutralize and destroy invading and harmful responses. Often related to infection, but there are also non-pathogenic causes. Exogenous - bone break, burn spinter (injury due to something coming outside of the. Endogeneous - injury due to the organism itself tissues) Acute - allergic reaction, otitis media, traumatic injury, asthmatic episode. Acute response - 8-10 days, including seasonal allergies, anaphylaxis , which is self-limiting. Vascular stage - permeable blood vessels (arterioles/venules) allows macrophages to approach the injured tissue. Chronic - persistent such as lupus, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and autoimmune disorders. Tissue integrity - at risk during an inflammatory process, as in impaired mobility and pain associated with an initial injury and with its consequences. Gas exchange - may be insufficient inflammation induced pleural effusion, hemostasis alternation in the form of microvascular changes.
