The shift in attitude or behavior that is a result of the influence/appeals by other people or other sources. Tv ads, commercials: try to influence our consumption and buying behavior, so engrained in our culture we do not realize how much persuasion is going on, this is the main medium of persuasion. What do ads & commercials try to accomplish: create a behavior purchase a product. How do ads do this: by creating a positive or favorable attitude toward the product and consumer. Major assumption: create an attitude, it will lead to behavior, assumption that behavior will follow the attitude, one of the conditions when behavior is affected by and follows attitude, is when the attitude is salient. 2 major ways of achieving this: repetition. Simpler = more liking quicker, but less liking in the long run: pop/radio music (like it at first, but then get sick of it)
