Document Summary
How we get to certain people being described as normal and others as deviant happens through social interaction. Notion of deviance is socially defined on moral codes. These moral codes serve as the foundation on which people and which behaviours are normal. There just list of right wrong, acceptable/unacceptable. 1) they are historically specific, 20they are enforced in multiple ways- in some cultures if you were found guilty of domestic violence, in some cultures the punishment was quite severe. Other men would take you behind a building and beat the shit out of you. These dominant moral codes are not inherent to us . A hard social constructionists view humans as being linguistically determined. They don"t go and say that we evolved. They don"t deny biologically explicitly- most of what makes us us happens through social interaction, and they often ignore biology.
