When a new baby is born, behaviours in a group change. Precocial fast developing, act older than their age. Primate infant brains under developed at birth. Humans most of all most helpless of all animal babies. Also, always born with help (obligate midwifery) New infants draw attention to other group members. Primate infants have a heavy reliance on learning. Grasping hands so the baby can cling to mom. Infants are carried 24/7 (except nocturnal strepsirhines that park their baby, as seen in tar- siers), therefore, experiences what mom experiences, and learns who is dangerous, who is inferior/superior, what to eat. Continuous opportunity to learn through observation and experience. Everyone treats alpha mom"s baby as same as mom"s rank in female bonded society. Mom"s baby is treated the same as mom is (seen in cercopithecines) Allo (other) parenting (also known as aunting old term, infant handling new term) Female kin (mom"s sisters, aunts, older sisters)
