Charles dawson- amateur archaeologist created the piltdown man hoax. Piltdown man- human skull fragments found with ancient animal bones suggested that. Upon further analysis by other scientists, the human bones were found to be much younger and the mandible was from a modern orangutan. The bones had been tampered with- teeth had been filed down and the bones had been artificially colored. Charles darwin- published descent of man in 1871. Lived in east africa 4-3 million years ago. Probably bipedal, some evidence of tool use brain capacity 400cc. Homo habilis- handy man- lived in eastern africa 2. 5-1. 5 million years ago. Brain size 550-700cc, about half the size of modern humans. Homo erectus- originated in africa 1. 8 million years ago, and then spread to asia and europe, surviving until about 150000 years ago. Homo floresiensis- hobbit- lived on flores island by indonesia 100000-13000 years ago. Used sophisticated tools to hunt komodo dragons and giant rats.
