-the term organic > derived from living things
-life force of living organisms > earth, wind, air, fire
-organic vs. inorganic; certain molecules and compounds were found naturally

-organic chemistry revolves around CARBON mainly
-only 1 in 625 atoms will be a carbon atom (1 in 2.07(48.5%) is oxygen)
-carbon has the ability to form bonds with itself
-carbon can also form multiple bonds within its self; single, double, triple bonds
