Building blocks of theory: ontology (study"s human nature) Determinism is the assumption that human behaviour is governed by forces other then human nature such as biology and environment (ex. if you born female you"ll be cooperative and nice. There is some component that determines everything (ex. gender/sex, technology, religion, actions, time period your born in) Sex designates whether a person is biologically male or female. Gender is socially constructed views of men and women. Free will is humans make chooses about how to act based on their individual interpretations on experiences and meanings. Thrownness is a concept that suggests we are thrown into a multitude of arbitrary conditions that influence our lives and opportunities. (ex. Black people born in the 1800"s were likely to be slaves, something that would restrict them from many things) examples would age, gender etc. its not inevitable: epistemology (study"s the nature of knowledge or how we know things) Objectivity (discovering truth) vs. subjectivity (creating meaning)
