The roots of the word queer as slang for homosexual, to mean weird, different, or strange , often used as abuse or insult intended to hurt someone. How queer has come to be used as an umbrella term for sexual minorities (lgbtqttia etc. ) An academic, theoretical model that grows out of a number of other theoretical perspectives, including feminism, lesbian and gay studies, and postmodernism. Queer theory is trying to suggests that rather then normalizing homosexuality we should be de-normalizing heterosexuality. Avoids the stable and consistent categories of and relations between biological sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Avoids definition or categorization entirely it"s not interested in consolidating or stabilizing itself. Very resistant to the notion of any natural sexuality or gender identity. Erases the differences between men and women, when it comes to gender discrimination and inequality. Doesn"t give people anything to organize around (politically)
