Modernism or modernity end of 19 th century): As a theoretical perspective, focused on order and rationality and reason. Rules, taming things, putting things in perfect slots and categories. Because science was neutral and objective discovers were not subject to question, considered accurate and undisputable. Tried to reconcile reason with faith, by trying to explain how religion and science could work together to explain culture. Create a co-existence for religion and scientific reason. About taming cultural life and removing uncertainty and disorder. People can have concrete understandings of how the world works. Individuals as coherent, free will, easily partitioned, clear roles. People as individuals who could use reason to arrive at truth. Straight forward identities that working to make a community about rules, regulations etc.
