Document Summary
The only characters in this scene are citizens, who have no relation to the court. They have the perspective of the people, and bring a new outlook on the situation. They chat about the king"s death, and they fear that there is trouble ahead, and that when a child sits on the throne, there will be implications. This shows that there are not just implications for the family of the king, there are consequences for everyone. They say that on one hand, there is richard, full of danger, and on the other, the queen"s family, haughty and proud, both bad contenders for ruling the kingdom. It is as if the illness that has infected the king, has infected the whole nation. There was a prevailing fear at the time, about what the people could see, but what they could not influence, eg. the queen"s imminent death. They could see it happening, but they could not do anything about it.
