Richard has his nephews both imprisoned due to being illegitimate, and usurps the throne. They were never seen again, and presumed murdered. Henry tudor, a distant relative, challenges for the throne, and when richard is killed in battle, henry married the previous king edward"s daughter, and unites the two houses. Performed in 1592/1593 (earlier than as you like it) Could also be due to the fact that at the time the play had been shown in theatres, there was an uncertainty to who would succeed queen. Elizabeth, and because the people were forbidden from discussing politics, they would look at previous examples of succession such as richard iii.
