One of the basic divisions were between conservatives and liberals this could also be described as a conflict between federalists and or protectionists and free-traders. B(cid:455) the (cid:1005)(cid:1012)5(cid:1004)"s, i(cid:374) (cid:373)ost (cid:272)ou(cid:374)tries the li(cid:271)erals see(cid:373)ed to ha(cid:448)e (cid:862)(cid:449)o(cid:374) out(cid:863) both in social, political and economic spheres. This period from the 1850-1900s could be referred to as the age of liberalism the age of which liberals were able to implement their ideas for latin american societies. This also resulted in an increased export economy. The traditional interpretations of this period is that the liberal age corresponded to finally overcoming the colonial legacy, we see the establishment of colonial freedoms and a sort of democracy despite suffrage. By the second half of the 19th century liberalism prevailed and by this time latin america was on its way to progress.
