Hsts 367 the wars of independence september 19, The french revolution initially found very few supporters in the colonies, however, the continuous wars debilitated spain. After the french revolutionary wars, when napoleon attacked spain in order to put his brother on the throne, people began to radicalize. The process eventually ended with the independence of all the iberian. He continued to be very ambitious after the french revolution, this is evident by his attack on the iberian peninsula. He wanted portugal to close their ports to the british, they refused, so in response to this napoleon invaded portugal. He was just not content with the taking of portugal, so in may of 1808 he forced the king and prince ferdinand vii to abdicate and give up. Afterwards, they were captured by napoleon and exiled to. He then made his brother joseph bonaparte the new king of spain.
