War of independence 1775-1783: creating unity and identity between the former colonies. End of the 9 year war, they wanted to bring the colonies under control. Serious tax measures begins to encourage people, stamp tax. Other colonies read about this and they start being involved in the tax drama, resisted their taxes. If we"re gonna have a south, we need to have a nation first. Creating some type of political gov necessary, and slavery was just as important: slavery and the information of region/ regional identity. John adams- writing in response to the stamp act; the stamp act is compared to enslaving north americans. George washington parliament meant to fix the shackles of slavery upon us. American rev- end of slavery in places it wasn"t important; vermont. People wanted their slaves to count for population for their taxes. Southerners didn"t want the slaves to be counted because of taxes. Us constitution became the new government, sept. 1788: the proslavery constitution.
