KNES 259 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Cervical Vertebrae, Bowling Ball, T29 Heavy Tank
Document Summary
Cervical is the most superior with 7 vertebrae. Coccyx is the most inferior with 4 fused vertebrae. 1 (primary) curvature is developed through the whole spine as a fetus and is convex. 2 (secondary) curvature develops in response to stress when the lumbar and cervical sections of the spine become concave. Scoliosis is a side-to-side curvature of the spine combined with rotation, most commonly in the thoracic area of the spine. Kyphosis is an increased 1 curvature in the thoracic section of the spine. Lordosis is an increased lordotic (2 lumbar) curvature. Can be caused by excess weight putting pressure on the spine. C2 is the first boney point on your neck. C7 is the most prominent bump on your neck when you roll your head forward. T8 lines up with the bottom of your sternum. L4 is in line with the top of your iliac crests. L5/s1 is the fusion of your spinous processes on.
