Population attributable fraction (paf)= the percentage reduction in new cases over a given time if a particular risk factor were completely eliminated. Some modifiable risk factors include peripheral hearing loss and social isolation. Modifying risk factors could translate into a large effect on the global burden of dementia. While modifying risk factors will not delay, prevent, or cure all aspects of dementia- it may push back the onset. Interventions like using antihypertensives, eating a mediterranean diet, cognitive interventions like stimulating brain activity, physical activity and exercise, and social engagement.
