Sovereignty may no longer be a viable claim. States must cooperate with others and international organizations: highlight the impact of globalization and global interdependence, ex: Chernobyl disaster: fire happened and the containment was destroyed, radioactive spread happen because how bad the fire was, spreading from the ukraine west: deforestation. Trees are cut down and not enough seedlings are planted. Causes: clearing of land for housing and farming, crop rotation (utilizing slash and burn techniques), subsistence farming, war, natural disasters. Loss of habitats and plant and animal species: pollution. Can result in acute episodes of unhealthy air. Differences between developed and developing nations stymie attempts to improve situation. Dirtier development will damage the global ecosystem: international cooperation. Link trade, economic development, and the environment. Effectiveness of economic incentives to reduce deforestation and pollution. Convince poorer countries to cut back on development efforts for environmental reasons. Need a long term perspective in both general global visions and local action.
