Circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. Don"t take your conditions and circumstances for granted; they"re not granted but fought over and won. This is both an intellectual point, which we can understand at a rational level. That"s rwis"s point: to build a just world we need to imagine what would happen if we ended up at the bottom. But nussbaum is on to something when she says that reason is only artly helpful in real understanding. It mattes that we also feel these conditions. Big fight was over the boundaries between public and private. Slavers argued that slaves are private property : but bratt pitt expresses the idea that the boundaries of what constitutes the private are not legitimate. Film shows difference: puts us in the thick of it. Vito is lethal but also compassionate: people respond to that. Tilly; private relationship are the foundation of the public sphere; its all ultimately built on relationships.
