Free fair elections, universal suffrage, personal liberty, and the protection of individual rights. Candidates are not allowed to hold campaigning stations around or near the voting stations, not allowed to course people into voting for you. You have the option to protest, not all people agree. Elections are held, but littler protection for rights or liberties. Opposition parties are at a distinct disadvantage due to state control of media outlets. Playing field is in the favor in the government. Absence of fair elections; rulers generally unaccountable to the citizens; can be centered on an individual, family, military, or ruling party. If there even is an election, the outcome is already chosen before the election ever begins (pre determined outcome) Up to 1/3 of the worlds population lives in an authoritarian state; china, No free or fair elections, no access to protest.
