Document Summary
Defining: the act of naming and defining is a deliberate process not an arbitrary one. The terms and definition we assign to things reflect our concerns, interests, theoretical biases and purposes of those doing the naming and defining. Why is it important to see the world this way. Why the way we see the world is more compelling than the way others see it. What we need to focus on to explain a particular thing, issue, or event, and what we do not need to focus on for analytical purposes. The terms we use and the definitions we assign to them are historically conditioned. They address the issues, concerns, or events specific to a particular time and period as situations change, terms will either be retained but redefined or rejected and replaced. Regarding the third world and the new used term global south the term third world was discarded because it didn"t fulfill the definition anymore.
