Modernization theory: a liberal theory of development (global south), explains why certain states vary in levels of development in the global south , developed in the us in 1950s-1960s (predominantly american origins) ! An institution such as imf or world bank is an agent of development rather than an obstacle ! If societies aren"t proceeding, there is something internally that is holding them back : all societies will develop provided that there is no obstacles in it"s path ! Will develop if you remove internal obstacles in that process ! Stage continuum that societies move along to develop : assumption1: believe that all states will develop! Provided there are no obstacles standing in the way of that particular development! As long as development is not impeded, all societies will develop ! They view development as a process of social, economic, political and ideological change!
