Document Summary

All party members vote in a block; if you don"t with your party you are kicked out, unless you have a free vote, which is not called often. Every vote is acted as money bill, and de facto question of confidence. In britain they have the three lines whip system. We don"t have accountability in the way it is supposed to function because of this. It is dominated completely by political parties in the house of commons. Party leaders choose cabinet, they choose the whip, the party leaders can make parliamentary life better for members if you want a prominent post, or you want something to do with a particular policy. Leaders will advocate to get their people to go on trips, or also take them. The party leaders can take away your power, they can make your life miserable. When a member of parliament speaks out against their party, they essentially get kicked out.
