The west to the middle east meant 2 powers : french and british. These are the two powers that seemed to affect the livelihood, and everything else happening in the middle east: british interest in the middle east. Was not so much taking part of the middle east and adding them. It was about avoding having middle east to fall under the hands of the power of british ( napoleons"s power and navy at the time) however,british intereset remained, but why were they interested in occupying egypt: french. In the mind of the british cabinet was the argument that if we supported them we would be able to pursuaede the russians to rejoin the effort in the war against germany. He went to the germans and even considered 1/3 of the cold mines to the germans. British were thinking that wif they could rbing the russians back, the war would be cut short and achieve a win.
