Close relationships consist mainly of friends, family, and romantic partners. It is important to for close relationships because you then know you can rely on them regardless of the scenario. For example, older people do not ask younger family members (grandkids/kids) for help due to not wanting to bother them. They ask a friend because they have a closer relationship and have understandings for difficulties. Therefore close relationships can allow you to ensure you have help whenever you may need it. Because it is hard to replace said person because it would be hard to replace them. Just the knowledge that someone is there is beneficial to the relationship. Most close relationships last a lifetime due to the level of support and awareness involved. We need relationships to make us feel good but can also make us feel completely crappy at times. This is mainly due to the fact that close relationships generally involve a lot of self-disclosure.
