Had a really good system for students to memorize. Later on people realized that they should start writing down things about life style. Oral tradition had details that books didn"t this was info that was passed down about the life of buddha. When british were in charge of the world, a british agent in india found a hill on his land. He dug that hill and found a monument which had cremated ashes and jewelry from buddha"s time. So we have the remains of the buddha. By putting together archaeological information and literature, we got a good idea of the general outlay of this persons life. There was a school on this, they didn"t believe in god, karma this school lasted for a few hundred years.
