Functionalism iii: 3 aspects of prostitution, the functions of prostitution include: Men have stronger needs for sexual adventure and experimentation. Less attractive men do not find sex so readily. Allows for male to satisfy their sexual appetite keeping the divorce rates low. There is no inducing logic in existence - scholars argued; look at its positive impact and maybe there is a connection with the nuclear (cid:271)enefit and that"s wh(cid:455) it e(cid:454)ists. You (cid:272)an take an(cid:455) nast(cid:455) thing (cid:271)(cid:455) examining it through its famine. Circular in its theory: tautology, no theory of crime/deviance, non-disprovable, beneficial. Taking all these criticism together the approach is highly flawed. However, sections of functionalism was used to create other rational theories: davis argues that society from time to time rounds up well-known prostitutes and johns, but does little to abolish the practice. Does the sex worker benefit relative to the men: because of the benefits we aren"t taking our approach to "fixing" prostitution very seriously.
