Document Summary
There"s always been segregation between rich and poor in cities. The distance between the rich and poor used to be walking distance. Now the distance of the poor and rich can be many many kilometers, driving distance. Lived mostly in rural areas and rural economis. Massive movement of people was taken place. Blacks needed to move to have an even number of blacks spread across the country. When there was a high number of blacks there was a high segregation and they needed to move. The great migration decreased segregation, high level of state and city level. As blacks are moving into the cities we see they are becoming more segregated, and whites are moving into different neighbourhoods. Neighbourhoods are sorting themselves according to race. For blacks, it was a good opportunity for the blacks to move into the industrial cities. Suburban home ownership was heavily subsidized, government would ensure mortgages.
