Document Summary
We have become more calculating and blas . In the metropolis , this is where we see new ideas, styles , engine of creativity in the city. Social ties and community is what we have in small towns and simmer makes his case that this cannot exist in big cities. This is what the chicago school thought was the breakdown of communities in big cities. That as you get bigger it will be harder for that group to be the same. You will get internal divisions once this group hits a certain size. Ethnography : study of a group of people and their way of life. These strong societies that existed in big cities became known as urban villages . This was seen as contradiction from the german view. In today"s society communities and neighbourhoods are separate things. Just because we don"t know who our neighbours are, that doesn"t mean we are without community.
