It emerged at the time of the industrial revolution (came to examine how life is changing and how it can be made better during this time) Social promises: sociology promises to help us think critically (that we don t take things for granted) 2)it promises to explain why we act the way we do. 4)it shows us the correct route to induce positive social change. Critical thinking is an essential aspect of sociological thinking. Critical thinking means using careful observation to arrive at conclusions about our social world rather than base out understanding upon authority, casual observation, illogical reasoning etc. People (individuals) make their choices and they govern their behavior. We"re born in into society that has informal and formal rules that structure us.
