Economic systems: society"s primary way of providing for people"s material needs, making a living , subsistence (sustenance) strategies. Outsiders way of organizing data: generalizations. 5 economic systems: foraging, horticulture (small scale farming, pastoralism, agriculture, industrial capitalism. Order comes from the order in which they appear in human history. Why you produce self / family; sale and profit. Extensive land use: lot of land but using it lightly. Intensive land use: using same land over and over again. Sustainability and change: a balance between resources taken from the environment with time needed for those resources to regenerate. Digging for various kinds of foods including roots and tubers. This is food collection not food production. Complicated set of knowledges of finding food, harvesting food, and how to preserve and store it. Labour: small groups related family members, flexible membership, stereotype men hunt and women gather, efficiency is key.
