Truths, values are encoded in the characters and their actions. From emic perspective -> stories are deemed to be true. From edic perspective -> william bascom offers 3 types of stories under context of mythology: myth, legend stories to answer the unanswerable questions. >fictional timeline that exists outside of observed or historical period of the present. >world is different than it is today, unrecognizable or in a different form. >i. e. tahltan view of the earth with no mountains, fishless lakes before raven came. Separation from the present/understood in characters (in same regard as the separation of timing)
