The nineteenth century was an important industrial and colonial time for america and europe, trade and development of industrialized cities made labor movements evolve. Cheap labor made a huge gap between rich and poor in society. Scientific discoveries like telephones, radio and telegraph emerged at this time. Art became a new form for patronage, large annual exhibitions made it possible for people to display their art and show culture. Careers in art and art critics in newspapers emerged. People from all over their world came to france to show case their art work. The opera: a new city opera house designed by charles garnier in 1825, based on baroque style to relive the greatness of old france. The birth of venus: by alexander cabanel the leading academic artist at the time. Venus is seen carried away by flying putti. Combination of mythological pedigree and erotic appeal proved irresistible to napoleon who took it to his private collection.
