Charles le brun planned that part of the louvre which is known as the. In the 1980"s, they wanted to make the site more accessible: they hired an architect called i. m. Pei and he built the glass pyramid: the pyramid covers a part of an underground access point, there are offices and shops in this space, as well as a cafeteria, bus stop, and more. Pei also rebuilt the richelieu wing put glass ceilings on them to open them up for exhibitions. It has different departments (medieval objects, renaissance objects, etc. ) The louvre has some of the best collections in the world. A lot of the materials come from french royalty. They have a lot of artifacts from roman, greek, oriental , and egyptian antiquities. Some of the egyptian ones come from napoleon"s ransacking of egypt. The oriental area has lots of mesopotamian art. In 1984 they started a collection of christian antiquities.
