Lecture 9: Hormones and the Endocrine System
Slide 3: What do hormones do in the body?
Hormones regulate growth and development, homeostasis and reproduction
Slide 4 :Growth Hormone
Hypothalamus is stimulated by the sex hormones, and the growth hormone is released into
the bones, liver and muscles, through the anterior pituitary gland.
Growth hormones promotes lipolysis in adipose tissue (breaks down fat)
Slide 6 : Reproduction and Oxytocin
Positive feedback loop : baby suckles, stimulating nerve receptors, resulting impules travels
to the hypothalamus, where the posterior gland is stimulated to release OT, travels to the mammary
glands through the blood, where milk is then ejected
Slides 7 & 8 : Review in ppt
Slide 9 : Nervous System interaction with the Endocrine System to form CCN foundation
1. Some nerves release hormones directly into the bloodstream (neurohormones).
2. All primary endocrine glands and secondary endocrine tissue are innervated by neurons
