We evolved to get hungry with images of pigs in a ield and bushes with berries on them (homeostaic hunger-when you are really hungry, you will be driven to capture and kill live animals for food) Now, we tend to feel hungry by pictures of bacon or pie, you don"t need to be hungry to eat it (hedonic hunger) Hedonic hunger is a diferent signaling pathway to homeostaic hunger and is due to the availability to rich, palatable foods. There are some precondiions that determine, in part, the outcome of the food and of the meal eaing experience": moivaion to eat: hedonic hunger, homeostaic hunger, nutriional status: deiciency, adequacy or excess of nutrients and/or energy. Most canadians receive adequate/excess of macronutrients/energy, which may be thought of as an obesogenic environment due to adverising and low acivity potenial.
