BIOL 1090 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Hematopoietic Stem Cell, Spindle Apparatus, Sister Chromatids
Document Summary
Mitotic cells in adults are considered stem cells. There are several different types of stem cells : The common view of dna is the chromosome during metaphase. Each mitotic chromosome is comprised of a pair of identical sister chromatids. *you never end up with a haploid cell during mitosis* Cellular organelles and cytoplasmic contents are divided more or less equally between the daughter cells. Endoplasmic reticulum and golgi complex are fragmented at the time of division and reformed in the daughter cell. Mitochondria and chloroplasts are randomly divided between daughter cells. However, nuclear chromosomes must be duplicated exactly and distributed equally and exactly to daughter cells. Cell division goes through a set of stages called the cell cycle. Cell cycle time can vary depending on the type of cell and embryonic cells skip the g1 phase. Majority of a cells time is spent here. Cells that are not actively cycling may exit the cell cycle.
